Mining the “Hidden Veterans”: Developing a Viable Military Spouse Hiring Program
In May of 2016 Amazon made a pledge to hire 25,000 military veterans and spouses in by 2021. During this session Amazon will lead the audience through its initial vision and intent before plunging into how you can create such a program for yourself. Key to their success in this realm were gathering self-identification data from spouses, and creating strong external partnerships in addition to the expected identification of opportunities and partners within Amazon. This dual effort within and without Amazon allowed us to source the right candidate in the right place at the right time. We also concentrated on a “change of focus” allowing us to be flexible to what the business needs and creating a menu of options based on where we are today.
After completion of this session the audience will be able to:
- Identify the unique challenges of developing a large-scale hiring program for spouses at Amazon including types of jobs, skill-sets, and geographic dependencies vs remote opportunities.
- Create an internal framework for a Military Spouse Program within their organization. We will also discuss the resources necessary to leverage in order to develop a viable program.
