Tips for Designing a Veteran Leadership Development Program
USAA’s Veteran Transition Leadership Development program (VetsLeaD) hires and transitions a select cohort of recently separated veterans, in their first corporate job, as part of a one-year development program. VetsLeaD employees participate in cross-functional leadership and business acumen learning opportunities within a comprehensive support structure of their cohort, their veteran employee sponsors and assigned executive mentors.
The VetsLeaD curriculum was developed by USAA’s Learning and Development team, in consultation with business leaders, to ensure learning activities bridge the business acumen gap transitioning veterans typically have when compared to their civilian counterparts.
During this session USAA’s Military Hiring Advisor will show how VetsLeaD was specifically designed to reduce the 50% turnover rate of recently separated veterans in their first post-military job, and spark ideas and discussion on how you can create a similar program in your own organization. USAA achieved a turnover rate of less than 7% in their 2016 VetsLeaD cohort, and is currently at 100% retention of both 2017 cohorts. In this session, the audience will learn:
