Above and Beyond: What True Support of Guard/Reserve Employees Looks Like
This session provides an introduction to the National Guard and Reserve population, which is a subset of the military population.
This course provides an orientation to the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act. It discusses the Nation’s need for National Guard and Reserve members, then outlines both service member protection and employer requirements as stipulated under USERRA. Specific examples of prohibited actions are outlined. Additional resources regarding USERRA resources are provided.
This session covers:
- A summary of the Nation’s need for Guard and Reserve forces
- An review of the intent of USERRA and identify specific actions which are prohibited under USERRA
- An overview of potential results of USERRA violations and describe resources
This course also discusses the difference between military training, a mobilization and a deployment and lays out some of the implications in each. It also reviews how employers can best prepare and support military leaves of absence (LOAs) and the actions they can take before, during and after the LOA to demonstrate support for the Guardsman/Reservist.
